Damping Elements, Stoppers and Rubber Buffers

10.11.2025

A wealth of variants to serve every application – JW Winco presents vibration damping elements for alternating tensile and compressive loads.

They have a core of natural rubber because this still offers the best damping values, unmatched by synthetic elastomers or silicone materials. That is why JW Winco recommends this natural material for all applications where oils and other hydrocarbons are not present – and you can read all about this in the application-oriented primer for vibration damping. This compendium available for download from JW Winco explains the best way to deal with vibrations, which solutions are available and which alternatives can optimize for effectiveness or service life.

JW Winco has 40 standard parts covering several hundred article numbers in its selection – starting with simple rubber buffers like GN 353. Its parabolic rubber body absorbs impacts very gently thanks to the increasing spring rate, making it ideal for use in end stops. Vulcanized metal parts of steel or stainless steel in the form of cover plates, threaded bushings or threaded studs allow for reliable installation and adaptation to diverse situations.

Among the more complex designs are the new vibration damping elements of series GN 148. The variant GN 148.3 can take up to 17,600 newtons of compression, making it suited for cushioning systems or machines to achieve low vibration. Both compressive and tensile forces are absorbed by GN 148.4, type B. This specially designed element reverses the force vector in the event of a tensile load – meaning that the damping element receives only compressive forces. This makes GN 148.4 the ideal solution when vibrating components can only be isolated via an element installed on the side or overhead.

JW Winco has the right damping elements for other special cases as well. Thanks to their waist-shaped rubber element, for example, GN 356 and GN 456 absorb laterally acting shearing forces better than the cylindrical rubber cores of series GN 351. Another advantage: Under compressive load, the damping elements do not deform beyond the standard diameter.

In general, all rubber buffers are available in three Shore hardness values, and JW Winco’s specifications list the maximum deformability and the associated load capacity as a much more pragmatic basis for making decisions. Regardless of your needs, it is worth taking a look in the JW Winco compendium.
